I am a terrible goal setter. Mostly because my memory sucks and I forget where I wrote them down 😂 So I’m going to leave this list right here for me to come back and assess my progress during the year.
#1 – Drop a dress size<<<
s may not seem like a lot to do, it's just one size right? Ha! I have been struggling to drop this size for two years!! I am a size 36 or a L depending on the size table. I know this isn't huge and it's a very reasonable size to be but it's not a comfortable size for me. The biggest problem I have with losing weight is my lack of consistency. So next year I’m going to work out a schedule for the week that makes time for gym as well as a weekly meal plan to help us eat healthier low-carb meals. I am a die hard believer in routine and if I can be strict about it with my kids then I should do that for myself as well.
#2 – Go on a local holiday <<<
ve, love, LOVE to travel. This love affair was dampened somewhat by having two kids and the necessity of carrying nappies/bottles/formula/sterilizer/medication for every cough, sniffle or rash/7000 changes of clothes etc etc. Not to mention that flying with kids is it's own cruel form of torture that has made us question every trip we make to assess if it is worth the stress. However, that being said, it is very easy to fall into the trap of doing the same thing all the time just because it is easier. I want us to see new places and experience new things as a family. We live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world and I know I'm personally guilty of always looking beyond our borders (I ❤️ you Europe). This year I want to see something that foreigners travel to SA to see and that we take for granted. I want to leave the city and go somewhere peaceful and scenic for a week to unplug, recharge and reconnect.
#3 – Grow a veggie garden We bought a house two weeks ago and will move in on the third of Jan. For the first time ever, we have a freestanding house with a MASSIVE backyard. I have always had this image in my head of pottering around in the garden and picking veg to cook for supper. Considering the fact that I have not been able to keep a single plant alive in all my years, this is probably going to be the most difficult goal to meet. It is going to be a huge learning curve but I want our girls to see where (some of) their food comes from and hopefully get them involved in the growing and care of the veggies. They spend so much of time indoors or with technology that I want them to also find joy in doing simple things outdoors.
#4 – Have another girls weekend In August of this year I flew alone to Cape Town at 6am on a Friday morning to spend the weekend with my sister. My best friend from high school flew in from Durban and met me there. We booked into a gorgeous 4 star hotel in the heart of the city and proceeded to spoil ourselves for the next two and a half days. We had no schedule and no appointments. It was just walking, eating and relaxing. I can’t put into words how amazing it was. For two days I was Nadia and not Mum/Mummy or Mama. It felt wonderful just being me. I love my girls and my husband but I also miss being ME. I’m hoping to have another weekend to myself this year in another beautiful city hopefully with the same holiday buddies.
#5 – Take my blog to the next level Even though I have been writing for a while, I only went public with this blog in September this year. Since then I have had to learn quite quickly about social media which has been incredibly difficult with our horrific internet connection. Luckily, our new home has a fantastic signal and I can finally get cracking on structuring the blog and researching/writing/interviewing more often. I have so many exciting ideas that I haven’t been able to execute because it literally takes me over ten minutes to upload a picture to Instagram or Facebook let alone a blog post. Plus I have a brand new laptop just waiting for me to get cracking! Can’t wait! I will be picking up my Mompreneur feature again as well which I love!
2018 is going to be fantastic.
Thank you to all of you who have been reading my ramblings and encouraging me on this journey. I never thought this would be something I could be good at but I really do love it.
All the best for the new year, I hope it is beyond what you hope for ❤️
