• Fit like Mummy

Natasha (Also known as Fit like Mummy on Instagram) is one of those mums who seem to live 30 hour days. She works full time in the aviation industry, runs at least one 5km race a week, plans interesting family excursions (regularly!), motivates her kids to excel at their talents and does some crazy Pinterest mum stuff. I thought she was pretty amazing before she started her fitness journey but now she’s my inspiration to a healthier lifestyle. This is her story: “From a fat child to a fat adult, being overweight had become my everyday normal.  Fortunately for me I was blessed with confidence and a personality that was larger than…

  • Under construction

Not too long ago I wrote a post about how desperately I needed a physical makeover. I may be a Stay At Home Mum but I am really tired of looking like the clichè. If you know me personally you know that I like to be organised and have a plan of attack. Since time is no longer on my side I have settled for a To Do List: 1. Book a gel pedicure and eyebrow wax every six weeks  Pretty toes make me happy. I can be in my pajamas all day but as soon as I look down and see neat and colourful nails it lightens my whole mood.…

  • I'm not a superstitious person…

This post is exceptionally long and is more to keep a record of the unusual streak of bad luck I just had. Be warned, you may feel down in the dumps by the end…if you get there. *** I’m really not superstitious. I’ll walk under a ladder if its the shortest route without a second thought. A broken mirror is just another mess to sweep up albeit more carefully.  Two weeks ago I almost cancelled our vacation to see my folks, meet my sisters new boyfriend who she is going to be following to another country and attend our best friends baby shower which I was also part-hosting. Why you…

  • The unnecessary shame of bedwetting

Is your child a bedwetter? Were you? Do you feel embarassed to answer these questions? Embarassed to even be asked? I would have…before I attended the Drynites event. I went expecting a pleasant morning out and a distraction from my usual day to day but I actually left with a change in mindset. I don’t know a single parent who looks forward to changing sheets and pjs in the middle of the night. It’s annoying and it is frustrating. Especially when your child is fully potty trained during the day and has been for a while. Here’s the thing: bedwetting is caused by the uncontrolled release of urine during sleep. The key…

  • Domestic helper distress

Labour is cheap in South Africa. In Durban the average cost for a domestic worker is R120 ($9) per day. When we moved to Jhb I found out that the average here is R200 ($15) and I felt very sorry for myself because now we could only afford to have someone come in twice a week instead of three times. Those two days are amazing though. Our apartment is tidy, the sink is empty and there’s someone else to entertain the kiddies while I cook or sort out the clothes they’ve outgrown or shower or do some other fun mum stuff. *sarcasm* I adore our Helper. (I can’t call her…
