• My first experience with a Cyber Bully

I had my very first negative social media experience on Friday. It happened out of the blue and caught me quite unawares. Even though it hasn’t upset me (that much), it has made me think a bit on how easy it is to bully somebody on social media. First some background I have been working on the #OneGrandFamilyChallenge since the beginning of May. Every week I meal plan and budget for all my families food needs (meals/lunchboxes/snacks/treats) and then each night I post of pic of what I made for dinner. This is done on Instagram and Facebook with an ingredient picture followed by the completed meal pic. There is…

Week One Recap of the #OneGrandFamilyChallenge

I can’t believe we are already at the end of Week 1 of this challenge. I thought I would have grumpy kids and an empty fridge by now but we are going strong without any complaints. In fact, I still have a few ingredients left over that I will be rolling into next week so yay! In case you missed it, here’s a recap of the dinners from this week: Day 1 – Monday – Vegetable curries and rice. I made potato curry, cauliflower and peas as well as pumpkin curry. Curries are a really easy way to cook bulk meals on the cheap and will give you plenty of…

  • A Day in the Life of a Single Mum

If you are a parent then you know how rewarding and amazing an experience it is. You will also know how difficult it can be purely based on logistics and the admin of having someone depending on you for everything. By everything I mean meals, clothing, butt-wiping, transport, water, snacks, did I mention butt-wiping?, entertainment, mental and physical stimulation, doctor visits, vaccinations, dentist visits, etc etc. As a two parent family I know how much I rely on my husband to take over with the kids in the evening just so that I can have a break (break = shower and loo visit #momlife). I can only imagine how difficult…

  • Be careful! You’ll fall!

I don’t know about you but I say this a lot! At least 5-10 times a day. My eldest loves to pirouette and jump and dance like a jellyfish but her balance isn’t the best and she often falls hence The Warning. But I hate it. Here’s why… By saying ‘Be Careful! You WILL fall!’ I’m turning my warning into a fact. When I actually don’t know if she will fall or not. And even if she does, she may or may not get hurt badly. What I’m doing though is instilling a sense of fear in her. I’m making her doubt her ability when instead I should be encouraging…

  • A Day in the Life of a Stay at Home Mum

I am so stoked about this new feature! It is a five part series featuring a snapshot into the lives of 5 mums with very different parenting lives. First up is a Stay at Home Mum and who better to give you a glimpse into this (far from)glamourous life than ME!!! Here’s an average day in my life with the time rounded off because it just looks neater that way… 5:30 – I wake up because the room is so damn bright. We don’t have a bathroom door to the en-suite(which will be rectified VERY soon) so the light from the window is super bright even with the blinds closed.…

  • Thursday’s Top 10 – My most useful baby products

Babies come with a LOT of stuff. It’s unavoidable. You will get gifts from people, freebies from companies at expos, hand me downs from friends and family and not to mention all the things that you think you will need. This is more the case with a first child because by the second time around you would have sussed out which products are necessities and which are space wasters. Here’s my Top 10 most useful baby products in no particular order: Wooden Cot Initially we didn’t think we would need a wooden cot because we had been lent a lovely camp cot. We were the typical annoying first time parents…

  • 2018 Goals (The long version)

I am a terrible goal setter. Mostly because my memory sucks and I forget where I wrote them down 😂 So I’m going to leave this list right here for me to come back and assess my progress during the year. #1 – Drop a dress size<<< s may not seem like a lot to do, it's just one size right? Ha! I have been struggling to drop this size for two years!! I am a size 36 or a L depending on the size table. I know this isn't huge and it's a very reasonable size to be but it's not a comfortable size for me. The biggest problem…

  • Re-defining ‘Home’

As a kid growing up, my home was always my safe haven. I was perfectly happy to head straight there on the last day of school instead of going to the movies or hanging out at a friends place. My bedroom was my happy place, with it’s cheery sunflower yellow walls and navy blue curtains. (This may sound like a weird combination but it was the color scheme for my cousins wedding and it’s gorgeous!) Nothing has really changed since then. I still love being at home with my family as opposed to going out. If I can stay in my PJs all day reading novels then that day would…

  • Giving of thanks

We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here in S.A. but I like the idea of taking a moment to look back on the year and appreciate the people that made it special. So here’s my belated version of Thanksgiving: This year I am thankful to My husband – for managing all our higher level family worries (income, investments, medical aid, did I mention income? etc) so that I only work myself into a frenzy over the day to day. For not running for the hills when post pregnancy hormones turned me into a tearful basketcase. For being such a hands on dad and borderline worshipping his girls. Also for being my best…

  • Product review : Muppie Lounge

A week ago I received the cutest package of Muppie Lounge goodies for me to review. I had been following Marishka’s (creative whizz, artist, planner, website designer, owner and and model behind Muppie Lounge) story and was really keen to check out her range. She is a mum to four little kids and has somehow also managed to start her own fashion label. (How the hell?!) She launches a new range every three to four months and NEVER does the same print on the same style twice so everything is Limited Edition.  First impressions: Oh. My. Hat! I am a sucker for cute containers and the T-shirts arrived in these lovely cylinders with…
